I would not recommend this firm unless you enjoy giving your money and trust to unempathetic people. This firm claims they are caring and do the right kind of thing culture but they do not care about their clients at all, it’s one of those companies that say they do but their actions speak way against that. I had major problems with this firm which who had almost withdrew two weeks prior to my divorce date, on top of that they leaked my personal phone number and address to my ex spouse who was physically abusive to me which I told all of my information would have been confidential. They accidentally leaked that to my spouse. When I originally confronted my attorney David Collins that I noticed my information was given on some documents provided to my spouse his response what that oh well at least it was my old address ( since I did move) I recently informed their manager as well that my attorney did leak my information with no response from them. No apology no nothing. They don’t care about clients, this is of the many many things I had to deal with this firm. Unstable, non caring people. Stay away.

I retained this law firm in November of 2017. At the start of my case, my attorney was fairly helpful and answered a lot of my questions. Attorneys use the retainer that is provided to the firm to use towards attorneys fees and court costs and filing documents with the courts. towards the end of my retainer this firm became very difficult to get answers from and would often take 3-4 days to answer an email. On top of that, I was thankful to have had family to help me with my retainer, I had a family member call in with my initial retainer so i could retain services. Well in the end, this firm charged my family member with a substantial amount of money when they never had permission to charge after the initial retainer was placed. They work with the client directly and keep the clients debit/credit card on file to re fill retainer when needed. This firm charged a family member for over $800 without permission placing that family member into financial turmoil. They were not willing to refund that money to that person as it's all about money and they didn't care how they got it or what it may have done to someone else. There name is Modern Family Law, Key words "Modern Family", Most modern family's need help and comfort, this firm was not easy to deal with. After my Mediation it was very hard to get a response from the attorney hired in regards to anything. Even opposing council stated that it was hard to get a response. At the end, it was all about money to this firm and they really hurt a family member in the process. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere or at least do your research before hiring this firm as your counsel.

You could save yourself a lot of time and money and just give your soon-to-be ex everything they want! This firm misrepresented me, failed to meet filing deadlines, lied about how much this was going to cost. They told me "at most" $12k when I originally called, then proceeded to bill me $40,000 before we ever even got to the final orders hearing. It was a bait and switch. The attorney that represented me during the temporary orders hearing was so unprepared that the judge gave the other side MORE than they were even asking for and then proceeded to chastise me for missing filing deadlines, even though I didn't know my attorney hadn't done it. Then for the last year an attorney at this firm has been "looking into it", promising to "make it right", but never following up when she said she would. Obviously a delaying tactic to keep me from leaving reviews like this. Please, please, stay away from this firm. They make a bad situation worse.

Jennifer Garcia is a very compassionate dedicated attorney who went above and beyond to help me fight battles on multiple fronts and did so in stride. I unfortunately have had to deal with multiple family law attorneys and Ms. Garcia and her staff are very professional dedicated and take your case personally and treat you like family. Better then my prior experiences by far. I would recommend Ms.Garcia to any fathers fighting to be just that a dad. Fathers rights are important to Ms.Garcia and she will fight to ensue your rights are and stay intact. I would use her again most definitely if and when I can if needed. A+ attorney!

Long version:

I hired Modern Family Law towards the end of my case.. like right at the end.. we literally only had one more court hearing, for the final orders, and it was supposed to be over with. Basically I paid my retainer fee, signed the paperwork, and we had to appear in court 4 days later. If you’re wondering why I even needed to hire an attorney this close to the end, I just did- and that’s another long story on its own. Any way. My lawyer, Grant, was unavailable for the court hearing, so the paralegal showed up to represent me. She didn’t realize it was supposed to be a final order and thought it was just a check-in. Well, my ex and his attorney didn’t show up at all, so my paralegal requested a continuous since we came unprepared as well. That’s probably the root of my bitterness. Since my ex and I couldn’t agree on part of the parenting plan, we decided to take it to trial. The court gave us a month to prepare. My ex didn’t do any thing he was supposed to and was somehow granted another continuous. What I’m most upset about though, is that another 2 months go by and a week before our trial, my attorney calls me to let me know that my ex will be getting a new attorney cause his current one doesn’t ‘do trials’ but his new attorney will be out of the country and they asked for another continuous. My attorney told me that he doesn’t think we should allow that and is going to deny their request. Come to find out, it gets granted- and on the court order it specifically states that my attorney showed up to the court house, on a different matter, and let them know we will be seeking a continuous. I felt super betrayed because there was no communication that that was even a thought. My attorney then tried to call me and let me know my ex’s new attorney thinks he can get him to agree on everything and it won’t go to trial. Another month later and more money being drained from my account, my ex finally agreed to the terms. Then, my attorney went to a new firm and I was assigned a new attorney, who was nice enough to give me a $500 credit for the ‘inconvenience’ but of course found a way to completely drain me of that, too, all within a 2 week period.. When I looked at my charge statement, I got charged for an hour, stating I met up with her to go over the final orders and sign them, when in fact, I told her I was going to print all the papers and sign them with a notary instead. All I did was drop off the papers to her . When I reached out to billing I got no response. Then, I was supposed to get my retainer fee within 30 days. I’ve been waiting...It’s been about 20 days and all of a sudden, today, I just got charged with a random $13 filing fee and then a side note saying ‘I bet you’re wondering about your refund’.. and then it goes over all the refund terms. The one that stuck out to me was that ‘I have to have 2 weeks of inactivity before I get my refund back’.. what the f???? My attorney already withdrew from my case and it’s been more then 2 weeks of inactivity so why am I still getting charged?? I will be even more upset if I have to wait another 30 days because of this charge today.

I just don’t recommend this firm...

Steer clear of this law firm for they did a very very poor job of representation. Did not fallow suit nor stay on track. For I can't speak for all attorneys yet I can speak for Cortland he is one not to trust or put faith towards protecting your family. A child abuse allegation was filed against my son's mother we'll leaving physical marks on the child yet could not explain to the court clearly enough there was an issue.

Don't trust this law firm there are only out to get your money I mentioned to my attorney no names mentioned that in the first mediation that they should have dealed with the equity and the child support but they just decided to deal with child support first they should have done with both of them first when first mediation they are a rip-off just like any other attorneys out there they're just out to get your money and then they try to tell you to calm down and there's nothing they can do about it they sure hell can do something about it! I thought they were great at first and they were going to take care of me I was wrong!!! This firm is a joke!

When I first stepped foot into Modern family law I knew and felt that I was in good hands. Jennifer Garcia and Rene Honeycutt really helped me all throughout my case. Both are very knowledgeable of the law, professional, and caring about their clients. The hard work they put in to helping fathers or anyone with family related needs. I could have asked for a better team of lawyers to have help me with my case. They are determined to get you what you want and what you’re child/children need. My original post recommended you avoid this law firm based on the quality of their service and flagrant overbilling. I have now changed that recommendation.... avoid this law firm at all cost because they are dangerous and reckless.

The owner of this Law Firm, Chris McTaggart, just revealed the identity of my ex-wife in a pathetic attempt to defend his law firm. This disagreement is between Modern Family Law and myself. We are divorced for a reason, but this arrogant jackhole had no right to make it easy for someone to figure out who she is, where she works, etc..... Chris McTaggart had no right to reveal the identity of my ex-wife on a public forum for the whole world to see. The internet is written in ink, not pencil. In addition, that could lead to someone discovering the identity of my children.

This is beyond reckless.... yet, somehow, it just seems par for the course with this firm. Deny, pass blame and, now reveal personal information that could lead to a dangerous situstion for my ex-wife and children.

If you read any of the negative posts on this review board, Chris starts off with what seems to be a sincere apology and then quickly explains how it's the fault of the individual and not his law firm. This is exactly the type of behavior, in addition to the ridiculous overbilling, that I'm talking about. I think Chris McTaggart just proved everything that I'm posting about his law firm.

In addition, his proclamation of my emails to 'his staff', is just another lie from this law firm. I corresponded with one individual in his law firm and... the last email this individual sent me was as follows and I quote 'thank you for your kind words, Brian. I wish you nothing but the best going forward'. You going to jump back on here and lie about that too, Chris?

I am truly in shock that Chris McTaggert would willingly reveal the information he has revealed with total disregard to the potential repercussions. Seems like a case of 'doxxing'. Wow, wow. Just, wow.

If you are a father, avoid this law firm at all cost. They charged me almost twice the agreed upon amount for ONE hearing. At this hearing my lawyer (David Collins) arrived looking haggard and hungover. He actually fell asleep at our table while I was on the stand! He would continually engage my ex-wife in 30-45 minute phone conversations that went no where and did nothing for my case.... and promptly added these calls to my bill.

My initial meeting was a dog and pony show where two lawyers openly brainstormed all the reasons they could be beneficial to my case and followed through on none of them in my hearing. They took the concept of over promising and under delivering to a brand new level.

David Collins as unprepared and completely outmatched in that court room. He continued to object to something the judge overruled in the 1st thirty seconds of our hearing, while whispering to me that he was setting me up for an appeal. The judges frustration with him was palpable.

Modern Family Law cares only about billing you, not helping you. I simply couldn't be less pleased with my experience.

Now that I have fired Louisa Schlieben I can write about my terrible experience at this law firm. First I’d like to say that there are three people in this office who Did the best jobs they could. Kyle Lapatowski, Scott Ascherman and David Collins. Unfortunately David was forced to leave my case when he made a rash decision to speak to my sons father alone, and my sons father was able to kick him out of court on grounds that David “threatened him”
Kyle and Scott handle the money side of things and it was just a pleasure to work with them. The rest of the firm was a complete waste of time and money.

After David was kicked out of the court room David handed my case over to a man named Grant Bursek. Grant was completely under qualified to handle my case, during court he continuously failed to make any worthy point or argument even though there was plenty of opportunity. He had to ask me multiple times what he should ask the people on the stand. He would outright ignore my emails and it was almost as if he was pretending to work on my case and just taking the money.

I asked for a different lawyer and was handed over to Mike Taylor. This man was so horrible to me I left his office balling. He immediately called me “sweetie” “honey”, belittled me, told me outright I look stupid and bad in my case and that it was gonna be real hard to do any of the things I wanted which was 100% untrue. My case is simple and any motivated and smart lawyer could handle and win it. This man was so chauvinistic I couldn’t believe he was aloud to represent any woman cause he definitely shouldn’t. He called my other parties lawyer by nickname and almost seemed to immediately take the other parties side because of it. I asked for a female lawyer.

Louisa schlieben, a smart woman who knew what she was talking about and told me that unlike Mike Taylor she could and would work to do the things I wanted in my case. I believed her. 5 business days later and she had not answered one of my emails. I had to reach out to her coworkers to get her to answer me. I asked her to do two things, very simple, get my police report and my DHS records and send them to me. Should have taken an hour these records are public and she should have already had them. Took her about three days to get it to me. I got the police report but for the other, let’s say 20 reports I needed she sent some random file she found that was just one part of the 20. When I asked her to get ALL the files she told me to “do it myself” she charged me $650 for that. So I have decided to fire this firm and invest my money in a lawyer who actually cares about their client. I suggest you do the same.

Please know not all lawers are the same and have the same skills!!!!

I came to Modern familly in shambles looking for a miracle and I got Courtland William's. Throughout my divorce process I went pro se ( my self as a lawer) to having two other sub par, expensive attorneys that put me at a severe disadvantage. I wound up guilty for contempt and had little to no options but jail and sanctions. Courtland and Chris Mctaggart worked hard and efficiently to keep me out of jail and give me the best result for my kids and I. Throughout my sentencing hearing I was so scaired but Courtlands professional calm deamoner gave me hope through the most nerve racking, high pressure situation I had ever felt in my life. My freedom and financial future hung in the balance as Mr. William's Mitigated and did his job and I felt as if he was speaking exactly for me and worded my defences perfectly. The judge saw in my favor !!! I was truelly free from wrongfull and unjust persecution. Though I still had to Atone and be accountable for my choices, i recieved the absolute best service and was treated very fairly under all the circumstances. My worst choice was not reviewing and researching my first 2 attorneys. The opposing councel asked for maximum penalty and came after me hard. Courtland was a true Shield, protecting me and my only regret is i didnt find him and Modern Familly at the very beginning of my case. Had i retained him then, I would have saved thousands of dollars on child support and lawers fees from other terrible counsel. Literally well worth the money and I will not go any where else. I am a single Dad and I would recommend Courtland Williams to any one who needs councel in Family court matters!! These lawers are Elite and do not mess around. I needed an alpha Counselor to step in and do his job and that's exactly what I got. Plus Courtland is one of the coolest names ever I'm super jealous. "I wish my name screamed, I'm an Ivy league genius like that"!!

I had a wonderful experience with my lawyer, who was hired by another firm and then hired mid- prep by Family Law pc Denver. Our court dates extended unexpectedly and needed to continue w/the lawyer I was prepped for the hearing. He was hired by this firm. They did not state clearly their billing practice or then have any swift prudence in fixing the situation. They have aggressively charged me for things that weren’t agreed upon and when trying to contact them to correct their mistake, did not respond with any honest or timely self correction . I would head a warning when dealing with this practice.

Once I had walked in to the firm I had felt welcome. I will not go thru any other family firm. They make you feel welcome even though your going through a bad time in life. Dave Collins was my lawyer and I will say this, that family law isn't for every lawyer out there because it's a tough road to choose just because it's the emotional ties that they try not to make but, they kind of have to in order to get all the details that are involved in the case. I love this firm and will always go back if I ever need a question asked or just to go say thanks for guilding me through the ugly part of being a single parent.

Don't ever ever hire David Collins. The worst lawyer I have ever had and seen in my life. I sent him 2 medical certificates about my high risk pregnancy, he never filed it with the court. He wanted to incur charges and could care less. I kept insisting him for almost 2 months to file it, I got very upset and he withdrew from my case and still never filed it a motion along with my certification to put the case on hold until the pregnancy was done. I am going to report him to the court for his unethical action.

I have been using Jenifer Garcia for 12 years! Jen has guided me through a custody battle and a divorce. Attorney knew the game and knew what he was doing, but absolutely not worth the money. I always felt like Jay had my back, but was more of a billing opportunity. I was over 10 grand for a drafted patenting plan and some financials. When I had difficulty paying the 1500$ bi-weekly statements, I never get a response from the attorney or thebilling specialist, they just drafted my account. I had a minimum 2 hours a week for email "communication" with opposing counsel and when I brought that up, a month later they said there was an error and the emails didn't take that long and credited me back two hours. A four way conference was me sitting in the meeting room by myself while he talked to my opposing counsel and the other party.

All in all, I'm out an absurd amount of money for a copy and pasted parenting plan with minor adjustments. I didn't even go to court! I didn't know who my judge was or anything! I've had my new attorney for two weeks and I feel like he got more done in that time than what took this attorney 6 weeks. I would recommend this attorney if you want to put up your retirement to pay for it, or simply spend your life savings in a matter of months. These things aren't free, I get that, but this firm (at least Jay Cranmer) is 100% not worth the money.

They're not kidding when they say going through a divorces is a nightmare! People make sure you do your research! I was on my last straw with how many different offices gave me the cold shoulder because of my financial status at the time. I got in touch with Johnson Marquez, and spoke with a Heather, and man did she know what she's talking about. She was so direct and realistic about what I should expect in the outcome.

I had originally hired Johnson Marquez for a divorce matter in 2012 and continue to use their services today. I have used their services for family issues, legal representation and other issues such as a temporary restraining order.
