I hired Marc 6 years ago to represent me and review the closing documents for my first home purchase. I recently bought a new home, and hired him again to represent me. Marc was very helpful, and he is very thorough and detail-oriented. On my recent home purchase, there were some closing costs listed on the settlement statement as seller paid (which was correct), but the adjustment was never made on my side. I was referred to attorney Marc Jacob by a commercial real estate broker I was working with and ultimately hired him to help structure and negotiate some rather complicated commercial leasing and business arrangements, including one he wisely advised me to walk away from. Marc displayed a keen ability to spot danger areas for my business with regard to both the commercial lease and other business contracts, but did not overly-lawyer the deal in an unreasonable manner. Two partners and I were interested in opening a coffee shop. We hired Marc to help with registering an LLC and for general advice and assistance. We were underfunded from the beginning and maybe should have saved more money before starting the process to open the business. He helped us register our LLC and apply for a state loan, and he didn't help us with applying for a sales license. Before we found out if we were approved for the loan he sold us on hiring him to negotiate the real estate. We then find out we were not approved for the loan, which Marc had us assuming we were in a good position to get approval for the loan. Marc has charged us $4,250.00 up to this point. We determine that we can't get a loan and we do not have the money to open the shop. Marc said on June 6th he will refund $875 to make the total amount we paid him $3,375. It is now July 31, after reminding Marc our address and that he said he would refund $875, we have not received that refund. Marc is quite eager to accept your money, I'm having trouble getting any back from him, and maybe worst of all he is annoyingly litigious, he continuously reminded us the services he wouldn't do because they were not specified in the paperwork such as obtaining a sales license. He could have helped us more, he could have suggested that we save more money before applying for the business loan, he could have refunded our money more promptly.

We were purchasing a new home and wanted an experienced real estate attorney to help us with the purchase of our residential home. After renting for a few years, we engaged Marc Jacob and could not have been happier with his real estate knowledge and the protection he afforded us. At a number of turns, the deal could have fallen through and we would have been left with no place to stay and with thousands of dollars in additional costs.
