I contacted John Morris in late July about an HOA issue and provided him with all the relevant paperwork, documents and $1,000 retainer for him to get started looking into my problem with our HOA. He told me he'd go over it that weekend and we'd chat. Early August I reach out to him again to see if he had any questions about what I'd sent over regarding our HOA. This time I was told he'd go over it that week and get back to me. Nothing. I again email and call in early September to see what if anything had been done. Nothing. So I told him I'd be by to pick up a check for my retainer as they'd done no work in 2 months. When I made it down to their office to pick up my check I was told they'd have to mail it as they needed two partners to sign the check. In summary poor to no customer service and zero communication skills. Go else where.

I am very grateful that I found Morris & Sperry. My only regret is that it wasn't sooner. I can't express the importance of getting good legal help before making decisions in your community. I experienced repeated and continuous discrimination at the hands of our HOA Board. I tried for 3 years to resolve the issue and explain the legal exposure they were putting us in. We had legal representation as an HOA that was both expensive and ineffective. With no other options I hired Morris & Sperry to represent me personally to get things resolved. WOW! What a difference! They know their stuff! Time and time again in meetings with other legal counsel I was glad I had them in my corner. On many occasions Mrs. Devo and Mr. Sperry had to explain to the other side what the law was. In the end it was a very expensive lesson for the HOA. We could have avoided the whole thing if we would have started with Morris and Sperry. Not all HOA Lawyers are equal. Please do yourself a favor and get the best. You won't regret it. And the best part of all was they truly cared and went out of there way for me in so many ways. If you are an HOA or a Resident I wouldn't hesitate to call! I know I won't!
As an owner in a Layton townhome community, we were referred to this firm for their HOA experience.
They have a slick website touting all of that experience. On that wesite, there is a section explaining their services for owners... Championing owners' rights.
This is what it says: "While most associations are well run and reasonable, there are occasional exceptions. If you are an owner in an exception, Morris Sperry can help you."
We happen to own in one of those exceptions!
It wasn't until we called (left a message) AND filled out the form on the website that someone from the office called back, listened to our situation, and asked for some additional information.
Once we gave them that additional information...... Nothing! We haven't heard a thing.
Can they help us? Is there a conflict of interest? Are they too busy? Is Layton too far away? Do they only serve high-end communities in Salt Lake and Park City?
Since they don't bother to respond, one can only wonder.
