One week before my Protective Oder hearing I contacted YWCA for assistance. From the minute I placed that first call, to the day of my hearing, the staff quickly jumped in to action to help me. The guidance and support I received throughout the process was unbelievable. First from the secretary, who listened to my issue, then assured me that someone would contact me to provide further assistance. Second, I spoke with a paralegal that advised me on legal terms, and options. Finally, I was assigned to a staff attorney, who prepared me for my PO hearing. My attorney took the time to get to know me, and to understand the domestic abuse that had occurred throughout my marriage. She advised me on options and assured me of her support. She made me feel safe and valued. I believe it was the comfort and care that I felt throughout the process that ultimately gave me the courage and confidence I needed to win my case. I am forever grateful.

Unfortunately I didn't feel like my first session went anywhere , I was very uncomfortable at the fact that the therapist kept looking at her watch ! , I won't go back

Horrible place to work! Staff aren't nearly compensated as they should. Some senior leadership are enjoying many benefits while the everyday staff cannot have a decent living off of the poor salary/wage offered. Again great place for services horrible place to work. Someone should really look into this. It is a shame that they have great people working there on the staff and some management but the aren't treated to a level in which they deserve.

Great place for therapy to overcome abuse. I personally see therapist Kate, what an amazing person she is. I do believe personality has a lot to do with being able to counsel someone. I have been seeing her for over 1 year and in this 1 year I have grown mentally and emotionally more than I have ever done in my life. Talking it out, helps but having someone to ask the right questions makes a big difference.

***DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAM***
***GENTLEMEN BEWARE***
So, I go to the arnold location for an intake/assessment...keep in mind this is voluntary and just suggested by our attorney's that the childs mother and i do this program because we cant agree on anything and we argue, like most couples do...no physical or mental abuse, we just dont get alone anymore which is why we were going through a custody dispust. No charges, i repeat (NO CHARGES) have been filed against me for violence towards her. So i do my interview and the lady says i need to take the abuser course 28 weeks of classes at $30.00 a pop. Huh? What just happened?... Now my ex did her interview and somehow got a victims course of only 12 weeks. How is this fair? In 90% of our arguments she is the aggressor. But anway, i had no clue they only have 2 types of classes there, a victims and a abusers course. I assumed the YWCA offered this mediation/ couples conflict resolution stuff. I cant believe the are so blinded by the stereotype that every man beats his wife or girlfriend. She basically labeles me within the first 5 mins. (ABUSER - 28 WEEKS). So guys beware i dont care who you are your not walking out without the abuser course even if you have never abused a woman in your life.

This is place bias, its ran by all women who i would imagine were at some point in their lives abused by a man or have a very strong opinion about domestic violence toward women, which i do not condone as well. But the vibe there is....I always feel like im getting evil stares and silent whispers from every woman in this place. Its strange.

And lastly, I have a problem with the fact that the same place that holds the 28 week classes does the intake. I mean come on, conflict of interest, of course they are going to give every man the course, this is how they make their money. The intakes should be done by a independent 3rd party, who has no vested interest in the company.

AWW...THIS ORGANIZATION IS A TRAIN WRECK , JUST OUT TO MAKE A BUCK BY FORCING EVERY MAN TO TAKE THE 28 WEEK ABUSER PROGRAM THAT THEY DONT NEED.

LETS FACE IT MOST OF THE YWCA PARTICIPANTS ARE COURT ORDERED, SO IT KINDA MAKES YOU WONDER...JUST WHAT KINDA OF SPECIAL ARRAIGNMENT DOES THE MARYLAND COURTS AND THE YWCA HAVE???

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT HUH?

It is a very helpful place with many resources available. I really get a lot of the counseling and the support groups.

I received some assistance through the YWCA to break free from my abuser... They put me in a shelter and the next day I got there my counselor said I had to goto a different shelter called the Sarah’s house. Well I went a week in a half later and it’s nothing like my counselor said it would be so I went back to my husband because my son doesn’t deserve to be homeless because his mother can’t act right and gets punished from time to time. When I went back to my husband this time though I knew what I had coming to me and I suppose I deserve it for running away thinking there was help out there. I’ll never ask for help from the YWCA again
