LaVell Thompson, Jr.

This particular rating that I'm giving this law firm is not at all based on service I received there. On the contrary, I was there for a job interview. The reason why I'm only giving them two stars is because it was an extremely taxing and demanding interview process! I was contacted by a local staffing agency hours before end of business day and told that a representative from Thompson Coburn would like to see me for a potential interview the following morning. I dropped everything I was doing at that time, and made preparations for said interview. What I later found out was that I had a battery of exams and tests to complete BEFORE I could even set foot in the building. But, nonetheless, I decided to go ahead and complete the interview process, anyway. As is well known by many people in the legal community, Thompson Coburn is certainly one of the larger and more reputable law firms in the St. Louis area. Believe it or not, the pre-interview examination process is extremely demanding and time-consuming. However, I was up for the challenge! After completing a 2-hour or so long application process, I was then required to complete a series of logic and reason questions, followed by a pages-long personality profile assessment to the tune of 8 to 10 pages! And guess what? I completed everything and passed everything with flying colors! :-) After that, the staffing agency submitted my credentials to the company and I was invited for an interview the following morning. When I got off the elevator on the 35th floor and walked into that suite of offices, I thought I was walking into paradise! I must say that it is quite a lovely place to work. It would be a dream to land a position there for anyone, whether a person is interning there or just on staff there. I had a great experience in that sense. Anyway, I interviewed with three different ladies in two separate meetings. From what I could tell, the interviews were great! I received wonderful feedback from Kim Morgan who did the initial interview, and from Julie and Danielle, who did the secondary interview. Julie and Danielle were very new there. And believe it or not, after all of this, I was still required to do a post-interview examination! You read that correctly. I was required to complete an additional battery of exams post-interview to ensure I understood grammar, spelling, punctuation, proper editing and attention to detail, followed by a final examination of typing. Well, when I called Kim Monday morning to follow up, she said everything was fine. I was told the Friday before that that a decision would be made Monday, by end of business day. Fast forward 2 days later on Wednesday, and after having completed all of these requirements and jumping through all of these hoops to be considered for a three to four month contract, with no guarantee of permanency, thereafter, I was told that they still had not made a decision (even though I was told a decision would be made by Monday end of business day). Well, when Thursday came around, I finally learned the truth: they had decided to go in another direction! I was quite disappointed to hear this after having gone through such a lengthy and demanding interview process to include a pre examination process, two interviews, and a post interview examination process. This whole ordeal, for me, was extremely unfair. And even though I did everything asked and required of me, I was still not hired. Your question would be, "Why did they not hire you?" Well...only you can answer that question. I have my suspicions for why I was not hired for this position. But, nonetheless, I will keep those comments to myself because a law firm like this would NEVER admit the truth for why they didn't hire me. So, the moral of this story is that even though one can fulfill all requirements for a job of this caliber, there is still no guarantee that one will get the job. That is the absolute truth. In closing, I must say that I would have really enjoyed working for this law firm. I know that I would have been a good fit; no chance to prove it.
