I called today (2/6/19) and talked to Alexa. She was able to accept a settlement of $2620.00 for my original debt of $3583.27 that was owed. I have until 2/25 (nineteen days) to pay. I asked what the process would be. She said they can take payment of check by mail, check by phone, or input my bank account info on their website. After the payment of $2620 is made, they'll send notice to the courts and to BofA that the debt has been settled. BofA will send notice to me and to credit bureaus that the debt is settled.
(When I called BofA to confirm, they said the opposite: that Nelson & Kennard would be the ones to report and that BofA would only receive the info. I told him N&K said it was the other was around. He shuffled some papers, stuttered a bit, and then said I was right. So, to everyone reading this, I think the best idea would be to keep calling N&K, and the credit card company until you receive notice in the mail that it's settled, and you check your credit report to make sure it's shown as settled.)
We all agree that debt collectors are scumbags and should be ashamed of themselves for how they make their money. But it was my responsibility in the first place to pay the money I owe.
The phone call with Alexa was much less painful than I thought it would be.
Now I just have to come up with $2620 in two weeks...
I suggest that if they call you you call them back.
Beware! If you have a judgement against you and this company is handling it AND you do everything to get it resolved like paying off the debt, they accept payment and DO NOT NOTIFY THE credit bureau that the debt has been paid. We called several times to confirm that Nelson & Kennard received payment and never received a response. Extremely bad manners and work ethic.
It affects everything and especially your credit rating when you are surprised by a judgement still sitting in your credit file that should have been cleared by them. Most other companies clear these debts... what's wrong with Nelson & Kennard?
