We cannot recommend Daniel enough if you are a property owner with tenant questions, particularly on moving into your property or moving tenants out. Call him - best money we spent!!
He helped us with 2 negotiations to take control over our property the last 2 years. 10 minutes with him is equivalent to multiple sessions with other lawyers, and he has a deep understanding of the ever-changing tenant regulations in Oakland. In our initial calls on each issue, he helped us map out the key issues, risks, and questions. He helped us understand the economic value of our options, and the various paths we might use reach a smart buyout with full release of claims. We deeply appreciated his coaching on how to “grow the pie” and create positive interactions (high road). Tactics to facilitate transition (e.g., movers, storage, cleaners) were great recommendations. 1) In our owner-move in process, he handled the initial eviction and then transition to constructive buyout. He spoke with us many days on short notice and responded to our emails within an hour to keep negotiations moving. We appreciated how timely and pointed he was. When we reached an agreement, he drafted the paperwork and saw us through a contentious process. 2) He helped us negotiate an ADU buyout in Oakland and to do so through a positive and lasting collaboration with our tenant (very different context from the first). It worked out great and again through it, we needed Daniel to help understand new regulations and different dynamics.
Highly recommend! Daniel was the best investment we made in reclaiming our home.

Daniel Bornstein has been a god send! Extremely knowledgeable, competent, and up to date with the constant changes made regarding tenant and landlord laws in the bay. When my fiance and I needed a representative to help us with an Owner Move In (OMI) eviction, he was able to provide us with the proper information and advise to make the entire process quick, easy, and stress free. His legal staff was available when we needed and always answered all our questions quickly by email. I would recommend him to anyone seeking help or advise regarding landlord or tenant laws.

Gentrification- we all know there is a devil hiding behind a mask in this business. WELL I FOUND ONE OF THEM! His name is Daniel Bornstein and he has wronged me so badly- I will make sure the bay has his name burned into their mind. I will not be silent. You don't deserve to hide from the sins you have committed. You don't deserve to keep your practice or business. Not just me, but the endless evictions you wrongfully committed- some of which the court cited you instead if you hadn't manipulated your tenants into fear.
If you are a property manager or owner dealing with related real estate legal issues... this is the office to visit. NOTE: They have moved to 482 W. MacArthur Blvd in a much larger new building and no longer at this address on Grand Ave. Daniel and his team of lawyers are experts in navigating the challenging Bay area jurisdictions, details and subtleties in the laws.
