I retained this law firm to sell a home in Wilmington, while I lived in Raleigh. There were several difficulties that were not their fault, specifically hurricane Florence which swept through, and some documents which were apparently "delivered late" from the buyer. However, due to other issues with the staff there, and unnecessary delays detailed below, I would NOT recommend this law firm to a friend, and I highly recommend you find another law firm.
They were consistently late getting documents to us, particularly documents that needed to be signed and notarized. For example, we did not get the final seller's disclosure until Wednesday night (closing on Friday!). They also literally sent a final document to be signed AND notarized on Thursday evening. I ended up **having to drive 2 hours down to Wilmington to hand deliver the documents**.
In addition, as co-trustees of the trust which contained the home, two other co-trustees in their 80's made an appointment to sign their documents. They lived in Wilmington, so figured it would be quick. Instead, even with an appointment, they ended up waiting over 30 minutes just to see someone to sign the documents.
I only went with Colby and Mincey because they were recommended by a realtor. I would highly recommend you find someone else for your home buying/selling needs.

Had a great closing experience and they worked around my crazy schedule to get me taken care of in a timely manner! I also heard they might hire my good friend Barbie, who would make a great addition to the firm!
I own a real estate brokerage called Do Good Real Estate and I've done business with Brandon Colby for over 6 years. Not only is he an excellent advisor. He is dependable and his office is highly efficient. I highly recommend this firm for all real estate related matters.

I just had the fastest and most pleasant closing of my three real estate purchases! Erin was so easy to get on the phone and answered every question I had. The staff was so well-organized, professional and I kept wondering when something bad would come up. It never did! I was so pleasantly surprised, as I find real estate transactions stressful. The deed was even recorded BEFORE I got back to my new home 90 minute later!!!!

Of all the real estate closings I have been involved in, this has been the worst ever. After we signed all of the paperwork and thought we were closed, we later found out they overlooked something that was going to keep the purchase from recording. Then about 2 months later, we tried to pay our HOA dues. Colby and Mincey had not forwarded the checks that covered that during closing. That took another month to get straightened out. Also, part of the contract for selling our property included transferring the home warranty. They left it off completely. We found that out after 2 months when the home warranty company charged us. It has been a nightmare to get that taken care of. Hopefully we will free and clear of all of these mistakes soon.
Do your research when choosing your lawyer. Don't pick them because they are in the same building as your realtor.

They completed the work in a satisfactory manner. The work was done just in time and to the minimum. Wouldn't use again. I think they are just understaffed.

These guys are alright. They do take pride in their work and honestly strive to satisfy clients and fulfill their needs, but they are not without flaws. They are very understaffed and literally take on a bit more than they can handle. Response time is not the greatest, you may wait a while before you get your calls/emails answered, due mostly to the high volume of clients they take on. I would say that they need to simply just hire a full, operable staff; or learn when to say no and limit the number of clients they take on. I know it's never ideal to turn anyone away in terms of business; but you can only take on so much. If you are a paying customer, you are entitled to 100% of the service they promise. When the staff's workload is bloated and overwhelming, they can't realistically get everything done in the amount of time that meets clients needs. Overall, they certainly aren't the worst real estate firm in town, but they are not the best either.

Great closing attorney. In response to previous review that I read, your Real Estate Agent should have informed you about the HOA and it is something that can easily be found through public information. Not quite sure how it relates to a title search.

They used to be Baker & Colby. Beware! I paid $400 to do a title search and I asked repeatedly if there was an HOA. Even during closing I was still told no. After living in home for 3 months was sent a bill for HOA. Called several times but never got a response. Was told if title search was done correctly they would have found it, they never did one and took my $400 for it.
