As helpful as possible. Very nice woman at the desk. To see if you qualify you have to call the 800 number, they don't do applications in office. The over the phone hpld time is about 20 min and the application takes an additional 15-20 min.

They are great for minor legal actions, family situations, real estate matters, and of course full legal representation for low income families.

So I contacted legal aid because they mentioned that over payments would be something they could help with after the initial intake interview. A case was assigned and an attorney Alicia Phillips called. She's asking ten thousand questions about how it started and then says she can't help because they don't deal with discrimination. I tried to explain to her multiple times that this was I repeat an over payment situation and if she couldn't help then why did the intake officer assign a case to it. Still she insisted it was outside of her scope. So essentially I called after reading they help, was assigned a case, and then told she wouldn't do her job. She literally told me she wouldn't do her job. The entire experience was useless and a complete waste of time. I hope Ms. Phillips can take this feedback and use it constructively and for the benefit of fixing her tremendously poor level of communication. Best of luck to anybody who considers this avenue as a road to assistance and I hope you reach somebody who won't assign a case for you just to have Ms. Phillips tell you she won't do her job. Worst help ever. Worst attorney. Useless. She had one job. Also I would like to add that after talking with Ms. Phillips and hearing that from her I called legal aid right back and when I mentioned to the operator named "Lisa" that the attorney they assigned didn't want to do her job, Lisa mentioned she'd submit a follow up to a sup and that they would reach out. There was no sup that reached out but rather Ms. Phillips sent me a notice of closure saying they were closing my inquiry, as if she really thought I was either waiting on the sup to call back or that I was going to consider still using their help? Just throw this whole company away and everybody in it.

Did not get any help. The Attorney did nothing for us. She never even came to the home (as she said she would do) to see the problems. They say thy help the poor, yet when I kept telling her we had to wait to get money to make it to a Library to send pictures to her (due to her saying none of my email attachments opened up, sent via my cell phone), she persisted we made her job "difficult"! She never did anything, so how was a " job" difficult for her. Then she dropped the case saying we asked her to after she called us & accused us if being in the wrong (harassing rental company by asking them to have severe issues fixed properly) & the rental company being able to harass us and never fix the issues! Now in process after being tested by Doctors and placed on many breathing medicines, due to condition of house, hiring a Attorney to help with case. They did not help us and this would mean they do not always help the poor, especially when it comes to Rental Management cases. There is so much more details to this story and documented misbehavior, but I would never be able to type in two years of issues and problems and how month after month, the attorney did NOTHING to help. We still never got a closing letter from the Attorney, yet she refused to accept pictures or any emails when they were sent and called us and said she closed the case. We were in shock. Especially due to both of us suffering major health issues and my granddaughter and grandson staying away due to their & our home falling apart around them, mold & mildew growth and paint peeling off walls (possibly lead base). Ceiling is caving in to the wall. As a very low income family, our rights were violated by both the legal system and by Rental Company. To be continued...
