Just Law and specifically Spencer Ricks were retained by me to assist and get me through a very difficult divorce. Spencer was amazing, he was quick and responsive to any issues and questions that arose. At the beginning of my divorce I was with a different attorney/law firm who pushed for mediation when I wasn't sure that was the direction I wanted to go and didn't properly educate me on the divorce process. Because I wasn't ready to continue with the next step and wanted to consult my family before making a decision he emailed me on a Saturday saying that if I didn't pay the firm for the next phase/step by Monday he'd drop the case. So, I let him drop the case. Frantically, I start looking around for different attorneys (all over the phone consultations since I'm in a different state) and talked to Laura (one of a few that I had contacted). She was direct, firm, and educated during our conversation. She took the time to explain my best options and was very thorough in her approach as an attorney. She genuinely cares about getting you through the divorce quickly and understands that divorce isn't cheap so, doesn't want to drag things on just to make money. Mediation went way better than I could ever have imagined and I got everything I wanted. Her staff is exceptional. Mediation was a month ago for me and my ex's attorney has been very slow submitting the final decree and paperwork with the court. Melissa and Conor have both been emailing me updates and following up with the other attorney consistently to make sure that everything gets done.

UPDATE: That initial review was written 5 months ago. Unfortunately, this is one those rare instances where a really positive review isn't enough. Nonie, Conor, and Melissa have ALWAYS achieved any expectation I had, and I can have pretty high exceptions, especially with extremely competent professionals. They take the time to explain things to you, willing to answer whatever question you have, no matter how silly or insignificant it is.

At one point during my situation, they told me "not too worry about this", and for the first time in my ENTIRE LIFE, I realized not only was I not worrying, I wasn't even thinking about it, because they were on it. That has never happened before.

For those "value conscious" individuals, numerous times I told this law firm I wasn't paying them enough, and I never thought I would tell a law firm that. You probably can find cheaper, don't know if you can find better, very confident you are not going to get a better value.

The original review states "If you need a law firm, this is the firm you want, end of story." That may be the biggest understatement I ever made.

Just law is absoultly the best their is when it comes to getting results! They are Very professional and work for the best results then you can recive! They will not treat you Like a lower person and will work with your situation one on one! with out them i would have been lost as a single dad! I can not express just how much they have done for me!

Jess and her team were amazing and very supportive in helping me and my family put our lives back together. From the time of the first consult to the time of finalizing everything I knew Jess was there for me and she was always fighting for my (and my family's) best interest. Upon first meeting with Nonie Ferguson, she was pleasant enough and seemed to want to be an advocate for me and my situation. I worked with her for a few months until she stopped responding to my emails and questions. Weeks would go by before I would hear about progress and that was done with hounding, which is ridiculous. Further, I was told up-front they work on a flat rate platform. They advertise this on their website for godsake! I was shown a form indicating the costs involved and was told out-right they DO NOT bill by the hour. The initial payment of $1,800, which was indicated on this form was paid. Then I received another bill of hours and other charges I was never told of, nor were they explained! I was flabbergasted and irate. I disputed this and they removed the charge. I proceeded with Nonie until my intuition was basically yelling at me to get a second opinion. So I did. I showed my mothers trust lawyer, who also practices family law, the current draft of the custody agreement Nonie had supposedly been working on. He laughed, and said, "This looks like she pulled this off a 'do it yourself legal help website.'" For FREE this new lawyer put together a new draft for me. He brought up issues and amendments I of course didn't even think of because I'm not a lawyer and have never had to go through this scenario in life. I could not believe how much Nonie just missed the mark entirely. I can only speak to Nonie's capabilities at this firm and not the rest. She seemingly didn't even care given her refusal to speak with me and answer my questions. In general, she simply doesn't know what she's doing. Beyong Nonie's individual qualifications, given this firms billing practices I can definitely say they were NOT honest and that speaks volumes about the way they are running this business.

They made a very painful process and decision so easy. I never thought I would need a divorce attorney, but I had interviewed several female attorneys in the SLC/Ogden area. I decided to work with another attorney but something didn't feel right. So I kept looking and found JustLaw. Best decision I could have made. The receptionist to the attorneys and all the employees in between are careful with their words, protective of their clients, and sage with their advice. They went above and beyond in each call, email, and question answered.

Before you spend all your money on this law firm, read the civil immunity for counsel section of the fee agreement. Saying even if the attorney or law firm is negligent, you can't do anything to them, or try and fight to get your money back. Beware. Read the agreement. They will rob you.

I would not recommend this law firm to my worst enemy. They expect you to do all the work then charge you to file court documents over and over again.

Their paralegal Sharnae left positive character witness statements out of my declaration, I paid money for each and every statement. When I asked her about the missing statements she told me I was rude.

Nonie is NEVER available, no one is EVER in the office on Fridays. An attorneys is supposed to put their clients at ease and all I got was pressure to respond to documents in less than 24 hours. I personally put more into my two cases than this office and they charged me $20,000.00 and I’m still not divorced.

I was not notified court was cancelled, I took work off for it and ended up on the phone being told Nonie couldn’t make it so they re-scheduled it.

The billing is a joke, they charge you what ever they want, your retainer means nothing so don’t for 5 minuets think that’s what you’ll pay. Plan on paying 5 times your retainer and doing all the work!

The only means of communicating for free with these people is email.

All they want to do is drag everything out and continue to go to court to make them more money.

After I responded to another bill Melissa wrote me and email lying for the Nonie, my attorney who continually missed court document deadlines and has for the past year!

I also have personally gone to their office in attempt to retrieve my personal documentation 3 time, and have been unsuccessful because they cannot locate it.

***update** This is a response to your companies shady review response; Nonie charges $250.00 a phone call, that’s just another way to get money! My review is honest and true and if your company responded to phone calls or emails I would have to call anyone not should I. Nonie should of done the jobs she was paid to complete which she didn’t it’s call SERVICES NOT RENDERED!

You should communicate with your clients and not rip them off and make fun of people who spend $20,000.00 with your company while doing all the work for you!

Your attorney charged me $1,500.00 for a mediation that didn’t happen and showed up in blue stripped leggings and chuck taylors, late, she looked like she just jumped out of the shower with wet hair. Real professional, not! Her and the mediator pretty clearly had plans to go shopping and no plans to finnish my divorce, you ripped me off there again!

If your company took it so seriously you would respond to the Better Business Bureau with something better than its against a contract to speak with them. Nonie didn’t sign the contract and I have email proof! Also if you cared at all your office would return calls, emails and answer court responses in a timely professional manner.

Also Nonie was not should of taken cases when she was so focused on her own wedding didn’t care about anything but her wedding, which I’m sure my fees help fund!

This is Just Laws way of avoiding paying me back for services they did not provide! Your owners can call me you got my number!

I hired Nonie as my attorney for a custody battle. Seriously this team went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of! They would either email or call me daily with updates or just to make sure if I had questions that needed to be answered. By far THE best team you could ask for to support you in any kind of situation. Nonie got me everything I asked for in court with custody. Extremely satisfied with the outcome. Laura was a terrible lawyer. She was hired to help me in my custody battle. She was representing me during the custody evaluation and didn't help guide me through that at all. The custody evaluation is huge when you are dealing with a custody battle. Because she dropped the ball (she didn't even take notes during the custody evaluation hearing....among other things) it messed my case up badly and I wasn't able to recover from that. I fired Laura but the dammage had been done. The attorney I hired after her wasn't able to fix the cruicial mistakes she made and I ended up signing custody of my kids to my ex. It's the worst mistake I've ever made. And I credit most of that to Laura for the terrible job she did on my case. She is lazy and won't fight for you. If you're dealing with a custody case, find another attorney. Laura is useless and will take your money and leave you worse off.

After having met with quite a few other attorneys about my complicated and daunting child custody situation, I was referred to Spencer Ricks by a friend. That referral completely turned my situation around.

From our first meeting, he cut through all of the confusion instantly, asked all of the right questions to gain an understanding of what we were dealing with, and started putting together a game-plan.

My situation with my son is night and day from what it was, and that is ENTIRELY due to Spencer, and his case manager, Liz’s, handling of my case. A couple of things that made the difference:

- As a guardian ad litem in Utah, Spencer works with some pretty traumatic family law cases involving minors where he needs to look out for the best interests of the child, and is very used to dealing with tense and heartrending child custody cases. Soooo yeah, good luck ruffling his feathers.
- Spencer and Liz were always quick to get back to me with any updates, or answers to questions. From writing up and filing an incredibly long and complicated motion with less than a day’s notice before the deadline, to dealing with minor interactions with the other party’s legal counsel, there wasn’t any point where my case was waiting on Spencer or Liz.
- Spencer is very good at reading people and situations. He asked the right questions, but he wasted no time in arriving at conclusions. He was also direct with me, and didn’t beat around the bush about my intentions or what I could expect out of our motion. He didn’t hesitate to tell me when I was being an idiot.
- VERY prepared. He was thoroughly unsurprised by the opposing counsel’s tactics - the same could not be said on their side.
- Spencer and Liz make an excellent team. He seems to trusts his staff and vice versa, and hires staff he can trust (see “Spencer is very good at reading people”). They won’t sling mud or use dirty tactics to help your case, but they were great at approaching the situation from an unexpected angle to find the best solution.

Again, my situation is night and day from what it was, or what I hoped it would be in my wildest dreams when I started this process. And by the way, just comparing total legal costs, since he doesn’t waste time, going with Spencer was EASILY the most cost-effective avenue I could have taken.
