I called to talk to his law office to ask if there is an exemption for military on the NJ "exit" tax. Unfortunately there isn't one for military, but he did mention one that could be available if we were in our residence as a primary home for at least 2 years and haven't sold a house within the past 5 years. He was very nice and knowledgeable about the whole situation. I would recommend his office based on the phone conversation I had with him.
Mr. Woodend was able to help me resolve out- of -state estate issues. He was always available for any questions and helped me understand the steps involved in addressing the estate closure. I knew that estate business was in good hands and that my concerns were being addressed.

needed to be, but after little bit of a "tug of war" with this unreasonable seller we got the sale to go through satisfactorily. Through it all, Gary was professional and polite with this difficult seller and the seller's attorney, but he was also firm and assertive. Gary has a subtle, gentle manner but do not let that fool you into thinking he's a push over - he's a quiet storm!!! And he helped me to find my voice, and a backbone. By the end of our real estate transaction I felt empowered.
-On top of being super nice, Gary definitely knows what he's talking about and (this is key!) is able to explain it in real person English without using a ton of jargon. I really appreciate that he is great about explaining things clearly, especially when I have questions about "how does this work" or "what's the process for X?" This honest and clear approach to legal matters has made him our family's most trusted expert for general legal advice.
-He also is great at applying common sense to situations, often able to intervene when emotions are running high and ask logical, calm questions that help focus our family and get at the root of what we need.
-Also, I do really appreciate that he is very clear about what he is going to do and when. If he is busy he will tell us, "I won't be able to get to this until XX day" and then works hard to meet his stated deadlines. He has never once let us down or not delivered when he said he would.
-He doesn't gouge us. Obviously legal services are not cheap, but there have been several instances where we requested some of Gary's time and I assumed he would bill us for it, but he has simply waved us out the door saying that his office would bill us if there was a charge. Other lawyers seem to charge by the 15-minute increment, but Gary is invested in his clients and treats them with much more of a relationship-building mentality than a making the most profit mentality.
-Finally, and definitely worth noting, Gary has the patience of a saint. My family is not easy to deal with. If I'm being honest, we as a collective group are about eight degrees of crazy. But Gary handles all of our questions and all of our inquiries with great professionalism and patience. He is never too busy to field my random questions and always gives me clear answers.
-His office in downtown Medford is easy to access with parking behind the building. I've been surprised at how many people throughout the Medford area know Gary. Most recently, I had a real estate agent we are working with tell us she knows Gary well. It is clear he's built a solid reputation for good quality work and high standards with people throughout our community, including our family.

Gary is knowledgeable, patient, and exceptionally understanding. He started working immediately after I contacted him. I trust him and value his advice. My aunt's estate seemed exceptionally overwhelming. Gary Woodend has a down to earth disposition. He is able to calm anxious clients involved in an estate. I recommend him to anyone who needs a great attorney.
