My husband & I needed an attorney for some legal issues & we called the firm.
After contacting the firm, Christopher Vonau contacted us and began helping us with our legal issues immediately.
My husband & I were extremely pleased with all that Christopher Vonau did for us in our legal situation.
He was very professional, always caring about our needs & our expectations, always returning calls or emails promptly, and just in general he was very compassionate about helping with our legal situation.
I highly recommend Christopher Vonau & the firm.
My husband and I are extremely grateful, and we will always use the firm for future needs.
The process was organized, comfortable and efficient.
Would highly recommend Jim and the firm to assist anyone who wants help in this process.
If you need legal advice or help creating or updating estate plans you owe it to yourself to call Decker Vonau - you won't regret it!
The appointment, which lasted about an hour, went well (I thought). Jim was friendly, accessible, and made it clear that I could contact him with any questions. I assumed he knew that I agreed to let his firm handle my work, which would have cost approximately $1500.00.
Two weeks have elapsed--and despite my having contacted him three times (one phone, one email, and one message left with his receptionist), I have not heard anything back about some brief questions I had. I think it's reasonable to expect a reply Since their website lists returning client calls promptly as one of their firm's principles, I have to assume they don't want my business.
I'm disappointed, since I had hoped to finish this business of mine soon.
The builder then had the nerve, to notify their subcontractors that we had not paid them and that all of the subcontractors should come after us to get paid. Which they did and my wife and I in turn received 12 lien notices and law suits throughout the 2013 holiday season. For those of you who have not had to go through this type of situation, it gets worse, when residential liens start to hit a property and the home is being built using funding from a construction loan, the bank IMMEDIATELY freezes all funds until the liens are resolved.
So there my wife and I were with an incomplete house, huge amounts of liens, frozen construction loan assets and a dozen unpaid contractors banging on our door.
Stunned, we turned to our family attorney who helped us craft the first couple responses to the builder. Upon seeing the extent of this situation and how bad it actually was, our family lawyer informed us that this was outside of his area expertise and that we would need some very specialized lien experience to deal with this situation. He referred us a number of lien attorneys which we spoke to on the phone.
After talking with a number of the attorneys, we decided to meet with Mr. Decker because he had the best command of the facts, he had impeccable integrity and he listen completely to what my wife and I had to say. After hearing our situation he firmly said "I'm telling you now not to worry about the liens. There is no doubt in my mind I can get these liens resolved with no other expense other than my legal fees. You have enough other stuff to worry about with finishing your house. I got this". What I didn't know then, but gladly know now, is that Mark helped write the Ohio Lien Laws. When he told us exactly what the laws were, what the case law was and what the process was going to be to move forward, that insight came from a position of not only practicing the law, but conceiving and crafting it.
Equally important to Mark's understanding of the law is his ability to give guidance on how to proceed with the completion of your project as it relates to defending yourself from the liens. Here's some examples of the guidance he gave us:
• Immediately put up No Trespassing signs and a rope across your drive way. Take pictures of it.
• Keep Track of all construction costs for the purposes of proving we've paid the "Contract Price" of the home
• Document the current state of the project.
• Document everything you have to do. Contractors, Supplies and your Time.
• Make sure you get lien releases for all work and materials going forward
• Mark even help us find alternative architects and craftsman from his extensive clientele and industry connections. Very helpful when you're not a builder and you're trying to finish your home.
I hope you never find yourself in the same position as my wife and I because it has been and awful 3 years, incredibly hard and unbelievably stressful. Mark made all of the liens disappear and he was absolutely right, the only thing I paid for was his time.
Believe me, if you are dealing with liens, you're dealing with something that is seriously messing with your life. So if you do find yourself in this position, I strongly recommend getting in touch with Mark Decker. He knows what he's talking about, he has impeccable integrity, he listens and he has the extensive lien law experience to WIN.
My father and I were very please with the process put into place by Christopher Vonau in order to complete our personal wills. Our legal counsel spoke and articulated the legal process and laws in such a way that my father and I could comprehend. The facilities off of East Broad street are very inviting and comfortable. The staff is fantastic and kind. I am very pleased my family choose Decker Vonau.
We were unable to find a babysitter and had to bring our toddler to the meeting, the attorneys there had no problems and also kept him entertained.
I would recommend them to anyone.
