I called for assistance with a SSDI app for my bipolar, which is well documented and lifelong, so I think it would not be a difficult case to take on. I've never had to ask for help before and finding this a humiliating and difficult process. The woman who answered was impatient and kept over-talking me, even after I told her there was an echo on the phone and tried calling back to fix it. Then as soon as I said I was currently homeless, she went straight to stereotyping and assumed I'm an addict. I didn't mind the question about if I have a history of addiction, as I assume that is a typical question however, after I said NO history of addiction she still asked me point blank if I'm "currently on meth." What a specific question, huh? Homeless is not equal to drug addict, and if you are going to work with disabled or suffering people, a little patience and compassion go a long way, or don't run a law firm which, by the way, makes its money by essentially exploiting the SSDI benefits of people who need them by taking a cut...I will find another lawyer and I don't recommend bothering to call if you are trying have any dignity about your situation whatsoever.
