Unfortunately, Matthew Smith did not represent any of the qualities mentioned in previous reviews. He is a good talker, but that is where it ends. I really believed that Matt Smith would make the right choices and I trusted him. I had a very complicated divorce and custody case, and it was after over 25K spent I found out that the opposite party’s attorney was Matt’s good friend. There were multiple decisions made without my authorization and on multiple occasions he lead me to do things that were not in my best interest. Eventually, my debt grew to 40k by the time the case was over with ZERO results. Yes, I mean it. Since the day I separated from my ex I gained NOTHING from working with Matt. No child support (even though he had me hire accountants to do income discovery for my ex) he never fought for my custody rights (when I had more than enough proof that I should be a primary custodian for multiple reasons). I was just another number, another dumb client for him who believed in him and was ready to invest every last penny.
Lesson learned, I think of this experience as the biggest mistake in my life.

Good attorneys take cases personally, and that is what I will be looking for next time around.

Rarely heard of anyone saying anything pleasant about divorce . Especially a lot of legal documents , division of property , child custody and even down to tax involved . I have to say a big thank you to Alisa , she explained everything in a very straight forward manners , at least made it easier for me . A lot of kind consideration from Alisa , she gave me a clear guideline of how to process the matter . I don't want to spend anything more then necessary for the divorce , at the very least I'd rather spend it on my child instead . Alisa helped me going through what's necessary and what's not , I really appreciated what she has done for me . I didn't have much to start with (not until we divided everything properly ) , so I have to make every penny worth . A lot of pain and anger throughout but at least it was handled with grace .
Alisa also contributed excellent suggestions that I didn't even think of , she made sure that my child is well provided and all the way to his collage fund . I was kind of regret not to take on her recommendation of obtain a court order to change my name , seems simple and easy , a trip to dmv is all it takes . The only negative experience I will mention is that it took several weeks at the beginning of the process for the case to start getting worked and I don't feel my expectations were properly set at the outset. My ex and I wanted to get the divorce pushed through before end of year so that we didn't have to file our taxes our taxes jointly, and I feel we wouldn't have made the deadline for the year if it were not for her help. Very un-professional service experience. My employer hired this firm for my sponsorship for immigration, the attorney assigned to my case kept telling us they had filed the case with DOL, after 14 months of waiting the law firm told us the case was still not properly submitted and they had to fire the attorney working on the case. The employer got so frustrated that they withdrew the petition and will not sponsor the case now. They just messed up the application.

I met with Ms Carolyn Eaton in mid November on being alienated from my daughter. After giving my retainer. My case wasn't started until mid January after calling to check on stats I was told she was still working on other cases but the courts are back up. ( which means nothing to me ) My case should of been base on Parental alienation but instead Ms Eaton wanted to create a new visitation order. My problem is that I have one in place that's not being followed so why am I wasting money on a new one that will not be followed as well, while I was in court to lift a passport order I the judge ask me to speak so I did afterwards I was told by the judge I have a strong case, But my lawyer had other intentions, I made my decision to get a new lawyer after being told I was demanding to see my daughter with the police. I can not explain where that comment came from and it's far from the truth. After paying a retainer looking for justice, I was put on the back burner wasn't important enough. But you live and learn. The most positive thing was I paid up front and when I asked for my retainer back was told that's fine..........nothing else

I recently had to have a Child Support matter addressed that was contentious with the opposing side. I was fortunate to have had Ms. Laila Raheen and Ms. Gigi Stanley on my side. Even though my job is out of the country, they were both so effective at communicating with me that the distance never seemed to be an issue. Gigi and Laila put a human and compassionate side to a very emotionally charged situation and they made me believe that I was their only case. I never felt like a number. I recently settled with my wife in mediation, with Matthew Smith from Livesay and Meyers as my attorney. My initial impression of Matthew was that he shared my strong preference towards settling out of court without nastiness, but could fight when and if necessary. I also thought he would handle my case with integrity and work to save me money. I'm happy to say that every prediction I had came true. I found Matthew and everyone else and Livesay & Meyers highly competent, honest, direct, and effective. Matthew charged the highest hourly rate of any attorney I met with (there are many who charge more, I just didn't meet with them) and I believe I am in a better position as we conclude my divorce for having hired him.

The paralegal (Gigi) was excellent, very professional and effective communicator.

The lawyer (L. Raheen) wasn't that good. She oversold herself claiming the opposing counsel was very old, almost senile. The old man outsmarted us every single time and end-up paying over $2,000 for an email relay person.

If I didn't use a lawyer, probably my divorce would cost me nothing to maybe $200. My wife only wanted two stupid dolls she already new I didn't have.

She walked free and clear owing me over $25,000 which she admitted owing me $8,700 in an email of her early accounting, but according my lawyer, that is not enough in courts.

So I didn't gain anything, paid over $2,000 in lawyer expenses, I could avoid that just letting the court decide about the validity of the two stupid dolls claim.

It was great working with Laila and Gigi. Their consistent attention, detail and follow up were greatly appreciated, especially with a delay on my end due to personal matters. I was provided great insight with my unconventional situation and the customer service exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend working with this firm.

During the consultation, Ms. Higgins was very informative and made sure to set clear and realistic expectations.
