My divorce attorney recommended David Lacks over 10 years ago as an attorney for mediation and Mr Lacks did an excellent job then. But when meeting with him recently, I had a very different experience. Mr Lacks seemed confused, needed details repeated back to him more than once, and lost control of a situation between divorced parents that escalated into a full blown argument rather quickly while he just listened to them argue back and forth. I have nothing against anyone working well past the average retirement age but if you can no longer do the job well it doesn’t seem right to keep practicing. Many people’s lives can be affected.

When I met with David Lacks, I entered his office and waited as he was late for the appointment and I could hear him on the phone upset because he was getting denied for some line of credit he had applied for; but they were not granting it to him. He was complaining about how they were making it difficult to do business with him and this went on for about ten minutes before I was greeted.
I was then greeted by David, no receptionist or secretary at all in the office. He gave me a clip board and asked me to fill out the information for him and to sign and acknowledge it at the bottom. This seemed harmless at the time.
Then I met with him in total for about 30 - 40 minutes. I left and let him know that I would get back to him about taking on the case. Nothing was discussed as far as any kind of hourly rate, nor was there a discussion about being charged for simply talking to him about taking the case. He simply said to handle the case in its entirety, it would be a 750 dollar retainer.
I decided not to move forward with David Lacks. Instead I went with a different law firm. I was warned that David Lacks overbills and asks for small retainers but before you know it, you’re billed like crazy and owe an astronomical amount.
I notified him in writing that I was not going to proceed with him and to send me a bill for his time. This was in March of 2017.
He mailed a bill to my old address in August of 2017, which I never received. Which was five months after meeting. He then sent my information to a collection agency. Mind you, not one phone call, not one Email was sent to me by this collection agency, who for comedy purposes, happens to be located in my same office building.
I find out about this by getting served because this man takes me to court for $250 dollars. That’s right, I was billed $250 dollars for a consultation that was all of 40 minutes maximum.
I attempted to pay the amount immediately upon finding this out, but they would not let me pay the bill and are forcing me to go into court to resolve it.
Clearly this attorney is hard up for money to file for 250 dollars. Consultations are typically free, but I guess not when you’re desperate for money.
I would not recommend David Lacks to represent anyone ever again after this experience.
By the way, that harmless clipboard application that he makes you fill out is what he considers to be an engagement letter. It is far from harmless and you should not fill this out when you’re just meeting to discuss possibly having someone take on a case. Lesson learned.
I firmly do not reccomend attorney David Lacks.

What incompetent lawyer sets up his client to pay alimony for the rest of his life with his ex-wife?? Still paying after 13+ years with no possibility of change.
My father had a terrible experience with this lawyer. Do not recommend him to anyone, as my dad is paying for the mistakes of this lawyer to this day.

Whoever plans to divorce? Being faced with one is challenging enough on its own, but navigating its resulting minefield of paper work, deadlines, court issues, etc. is enough to make anyone feel lost and alone. David Lacks not only provided the key to my sanity through his reassuring nature, but he was also supremely reliable throughout the entire process. I never had to worry about the myriad of legal details. David took care of everything, even permitting me the luxury of venting on occasion. I can't imagine everything's he's likely heard over the years, and yet he is always the consummate professional. Allow me to add as well that billing and fees were always transparent and reasonable. I never felt as if I were being overcharged or taken advantage of financially. No one I know goes into a marriage planning to divorce, but life happens. I would highly recommend David Lacks to help you get on with the rest of your life sooner.
