This lawyer is a joke. Especially as a GAL. He does not have the best Interest of children at all. He makes poor recommendations that put children in harm which then leads them to develop mental and self esteem issue. He makes recommendations that make you pay more money that put you in a cycle of counselors and therapy which benifits no one at all. He then relies of the others to make his recommendations. So what are you paying for a bunch of opinions of others that have no clue about your children. Never choose him to help with your children and if he is court ordered strongly suggest for another lawyer because this one is lazy and meets with children only one time and only does a follow up after tmyou pay your lawyer to email him every day to do something then he still sits on his thumbs.This lawyer adopted children that he was a GAL for. What a joke who allowed that. Let me take your kids then adopt them.

DO NOT TRUST YOUR KIDS LIVES WITH THIS MAN!
I had the opportunity to work with Steven Ellis as a result of my divorce which began September of 2015 and was finalized during January of 2017. Since he was assigned to be the guardian ad litem for the 4 minor children in my case he was quick to point out that he didn't work for me (even though I paid him $2,500), and he didn't work for my kids (even though that is the purpose of a guardian ad litem).
I decided to end an unstable relationship and was seeking relief from the courts. I had documented proof of the instability of the mother. Mr Ellis was in possession of video, email exchanges, text messages, and testimony from the kids that their high conflict mother was out of control. (I had a journal filled with over 240 pages worth of incidents) My kids were 17, 13, 12, and 11 at the time so they were all highly capable of communicating what they were witnessing.
Its been over 2 years... why bring this up now? This is why...
My current wife had an issue come up where her ex-husband was going back and challenging portions of the original divorce. During that time her ex husband called and cancelled the therapy sessions for his 2 kids ages 13 and 14. He did it because he could. He exercised his legal rights as a parent. That one act was immediately deemed as Child Endangerment and as a result the ex-husband was given less parenting time and his legal rights were taken away. My wife now has full legal custody of her two kids. Just for cancelling appointments.
Rewind to my situation... My oldest daughter was being seen at Kids TLC in Olathe during the divorce. She was being treated for anxiety and early stages of self harming. Her mother insisted upon having a joint session with the therapist and my daughter at Kids TLC. The meeting did not go well. The professional at Kids TLC recommended the mother seek out treatment of her own. The mother proceeded to send emails and harass my daughters therapist. In Feb of 2016 I was called to have a joint meeting at Kids TLC with my ex-wife, the therapist, and her boss. Within 5 minutes my ex-wife was bickering with the therapist and acting extremely inappropriate. The manager in charge excused the therapist and told us that they could no longer see our daughter anymore. My ex-wife's behavior got my daughter kicked out of Kids TLC. My ex wife proceeded to block my daughter from seeing a new therapist for 9 months because she could. It was her legal right as a parent. Mr Ellis had full knowledge and documentation of this incident.
WHY WASN'T THIS CONSIDERED CHILD ENDANGERMENT?
WHY DID MR ELLIS IGNORE THIS?
WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE RESULT IF I HAD DONE WHAT MY EX WIFE DID?
WHY DID MR ELLIS TELL THE JUDGE NOTHING UNUSUAL THAT WE HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE WAS GOING ON?
My ex-wife is still high conflict and my kids still suffer today. Nobody wins in divorce but Mr Ellis blatantly ignoring this child endangerment issue and many others is unacceptable!
