Last year I was the victim of identity theft by someone who broke into my car. A year later that person was charged in a shop lifting case in my name after presenting the officer with my drivers license and information, posing as me. When I received a notice in the mail for "my" court date I turned to the law office of David Knoll for help to prove my innocence. Extremely anxious, I called the same evening that I received the notice and Attorney Christy Van Stelle answered the phone ultimately agreeing to handle my case. She provided me with reassurance from the beginning that she would do everything she could to get this off my record and prove that it was fraud. In the end she was able to close my case in Yolo County, convincing the district attorney that the shop lifter was fraudulently using my identity and that I was the victim. Having never been accused of a crime before, I was extremely anxious about the case, but Christy kept me updated every step of the way. First of all, I'd like to state that I am not reviewing this firm based on services received. On the contrary; I am reviewing them on their lack of enthusiasm to help us.
My partner was involved in a DUI last week, and I IMMEDIATELY began to look for the best of the best in the Sacramento area. I stumbled upon this highly rated firm and asked my partner to immediately make an appointment. We were able to obtain a 3:30PM appointment last Thursday after speaking to a "nice lady", who by the way screened us and knew the DUI had JUST occurred and what documents we had at that point. Because I was at work, my partner had to take a cab. He got there 10 minutes early and when he entered the office, the lady asked what he was doing there, then she realized who he was and said she had completely forgot about him and that she was on her way out to. She then told him that she couldn't do anything without the police report anyway and sent him on his way. The interaction lasted less than 8 minutes. I was livid. I'd like to make it very clear that he was there stressed out, nervous, and ready to give her whatever amount was necessary to take our case. After speaking to many, MANY lawyers ever since, no -- she did NOT need the police report to at least get the case started and deal with the DMV situation. As we all know, police reports are SO HARD to obtain; especially with other charges attached to DUIs.
Anyway, there is a happy ending. We were able to find an even better rated attorney who charges almost double the amount, but he can at least ensure that his staff is ethical, professional, and responsible enough to postpone their lunch for a client who is scared and willing to pay right then and there.

I recently got my first DUI, and was bombarded with attorney letters after coming home.
