Asked a simple question, got a rude response. Wouldn't suggest this attorney to anyone, can't even ask a simple question about taxes. If you don't want to help the people, don't take the career if you don't enjoy it. The people don't pay taxes to get rejected for asking simple questions. Sorry if this is rude, but hanging up on someone for asking a question when you have someone telling you from H&R Block telling you to get an attorney or lawyer. Then you call around, and can't get any information, but a click.

I have relied on Steve in numerous real estate closing transactions over many years and wouldn't consider anyone else!

Hired him to do a simple counter sue and he was so unaware of his duties that I lost the case that should have been easily won. He failed to correctly subpoena the couple I was charging to where even the judge in court was frustrated at his negligence. Three years worth of waiting for a sum of money stolen from me and he lost it, including my fees to him. He is sloppy and unaware. Don’t go to him.

Mr, Barnwell is a "to the point" person and attorney. He doesn't like to listen to long stories, just get to the point and tell him what you want! He is too busy to hear trivial stuff that doesn't matter anyway. (Kind of reminds me of Judge Judy). He yelled at me one time and I just yelled right back! He said he was not yelling, just trying to make a point but I took it as yelling. All in all, he is very fair, honest and he gets the job done and he does it very well.

stephen was referred to us by three different friends who spoke highly of him --
and we have now used his services on the closing of several properties. we have found him to be honest and thorough, he completes work when promised, and is fairly priced.

As buyers we hired Ms. Long an associate at Stephen Barnwell Law Offices to purchase a property in Zirconia, NC. On the day of the closing, (minutes before actually closing) a neighbor made us aware that a "right of way" easement existed on the property. This easement encompassed more than half of the ONLY narrow driveway entrance to the property, potentially allowing the easement holder to block us from entering the property at any time, once we purchased it (which had occurred in the past with the seller and the police were involved, we found out).

Furthermore, upon doing our walk through on the day of the closing we discovered the seller had not vacated the property. The seller was attempting to close leaving us with a SIGNIFICANT amount of household items, debris, and just plain junk strewn in and around the property including a junky old vehicle (we took pics, all witnessed by our realtor and a friend). It would have taken days and $7k+ in dumpster fees to clean the property. Naturally per the sales contract all debris were to be removed prior to the closing date. The seller had more than 45 days to vacate the property and we had made it clear from the start that our plans had a hard dependency on the seller vacating the home completely by the closing date. The seller clearly breached the sales contract by not vacating as agreed and because of this we should have received our "good faith" deposit back, but it wasn't returned by Ms. Long. Ms. Long would not engage the seller further in getting the funds rightfully returned to us.

Had Ms. Long done her job in the first place and discovered the easement in the county records during the due diligence period we would have ended the contract at that time and saved everyone the time and expense. However through the closing date meeting Ms. Long insisted no such easement existed. Although it was easily verifiable in the county records that such an easement existed.

To add insult to injury, we had paid for repairs to the property prior to closing, to make it FHA compliant $800+, inspections $600+, travel expenses $+. Ms. Long in short told us we would have to sue to get that money back. There is much more to this story that makes us question Ms. Long's motives & actions throughout the entire process and there unfortunately is limited space here to tell it.

We did not receive our "good faith" $1000 deposit money back, as the seller would not sign a release. Also, at the time when the closing was supposed to occur Ms. Long told our realtor, also a friend I had with me, and myself (three people) that we would not owe anything for her services because the closing would not be taking place as planned (she agreed at that time that the seller had breached the sales contract). However weeks later, she had the audacity to have Stephen Barnwell send us a demand letter for her "services" in an obvious attempt to keep our "good faith" money which is conveniently located in her escrow acct until the seller signs the release (which Ms. Long told us the seller never will). We were looking forward to moving down to NC up in the mountains, but Ms. Long along with the seller of that property broke our hearts and our dreams. We lost a lot of money and time but we learned valuable lessons from this transaction and we hope everyone who reads this review does as well. We wholeheartedly do NOT recommend Brittany Long for any real estate transaction and stay clear of Stephen Barnwell Law Offices. Our whole interaction with that firm felt like a scam, BEWARE!

WOW. Just tried to get some information as to, A Home Owners Association Mr. Barnwell is agent for. BIG MISTAKE. He left me an awful voicemail. Spoke with him this morning. He over talked me, yelled at me and then hung up. Way to be a helpful and kind. I've not done business with this man, nor would I. Nice, helpful and kind are FREE. No reason to be a total ass. Southern charm? Not here.

Mr. Barnwell is the attorney I use and recommend for all legal needs. He has done multiple real estate transactions for me, helped with my friends divorce, and several legal notices that needed to go out for my business. He is a great attorney, incredibly knowledgeable, and always has a fair price. It has been great to find a honest, fair, hard working attorney and I cannot recommend him enough!
