Attorney Ferguson was great. I was worried at first because I am in a different state and we didnt have much time to prepare before court. But she did amazing in front of the judge. Used the Ferguson Law Firm awhile back, seems my 1 star review has been deleted. Ms. Ferguson prepped for my trial the day of our court date in the cafeteria of the courthouse. Completely unprofessional and was beyond incompetent of the case. Her main focus was an estate case she was working on. This was very apparent by the lack of knowledge of very basic case details in my case. She will take your money if you want her to but she will not properly represent your best interests. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LAW FIRM

Ms. Ferguson was my attorney in Fayetteville last year. I didn't realize how great she was until I had a second go through the Cumberland county system with my youngest son. It was this second go that made me realize I was blaming her for the jacked up system that is unique to Cumberland. With my new wisdom I want to give some good advice to people looking for lawyers in the area and an honest review.
If you have been pro se in other areas you may think that you will be ok, but in Cumberland YOU WILL NOT. The court is supposed to dispence with a family law case within a year, by their own time standards, but they don't. It is very common for a simple case to not be heard for two or three years with long gaps between hearings and your date pushed off constantly. Know that the lawyers do have special access to the judge and they meet with him without you there in the back room after roll is called. Trying to send in any motion is almost impossible without being in town, because the lawyers deliver motions to the judge's office and if you have to mail something in or request something, it WILL take the Pro Se two weeks to hear back on it and most likely you will receive a letter stating they didn't know what you wanted them to do. There is little to no oversight of what is going on here and all the lawyers know each other so if you think you can do it Pro Se here, you can't. Get a lawyer.

Now, I have called just about every lawyer in this county and I have been through this system for three years sitting in on a lot of cases as they are held infront of everyone, unless hypothetically the judge is about to do something very out of line for your special case in which you will go last after everyone has left and the recording will be lost, hypothetically of course. So, with my experience here is what I can tell you about Ms. Ferguson:

Other lawyers do not like to be on the other side against her. They call her a bulldog. She will NOT sell you out. I cannot stress how important this is in a town like this. Ms. Ferguson is one of the rare Christians who mean everything they say and really believe in justice and her clients. If you are in the wrong and you go to her, you better tell her the truth, because she will find it out. If you are in the right, then know it is going to be a long process, but if you stick it out she will stick it out with you.
She is very sharp and knows the law extremely well. She was about the only lawyer I have consulted with in the town who gave me law advice rather than asking who my judge was and switching our plan to accomodate personalities. Other lawyers in town have been referred to as "easy to work with" and what that meant is they were going to split the difference in my case and come up with a settlement that accomodated the other party very well, but didn't take into account my child at all. The system in Fayetteville does not work the way it should. The orders that came from that town have spun the heads of the courts in other states, "why did they take jurisdiction and then deny it a year later?" "You can't have 50/50 when the other parent lives states away?" "How can they keep jurisdiction when no one has lived in that state for over a year?" but these are exactly the orders that have come out of this court. But with Ms. Ferguson, I never once felt like myself or my son had been betrayed, nothing was agreed to on my behalf without my knowledge and consent, and she does the right thing.

This is in response to the post from Halfthewaysir. I am the spouse that he is referring to in his appalling post. First off, Attorney Ferguson was MY attorney and in MY opinion she (and her office) did the best she could with the circumstances that she was presented with. I am not going to go into the details of my case or my employment with Attorney Ferguson, as those are private. I will say that she did her research and fought for me the whole time. The opposing side to my case made this whole process extremely difficult and trying for all involved. As you can see from his post, he continues to do so. I am horrified that he would come onto this site and critique MY attorney, it shows just how narcissistic and petty he actually is. If you are looking for someone who will work tirelessly for you, tell you things that you need to hear and fight for your best interests then please give her office a call.

This attorney is fantastic, for your spouse if you are divorcing! She represented my ex and I witnessed her argue with the judge, tell the judge she was wrong and talk down to her client making her cry. She also hired my ex to work for her, while the case was going on only to fire her a few months later. Ferguson was quite the spectacle. She convinced my ex she was getting screwed and in the end my ex ended up with nothing more than what was agreed upon in the separation agreement, but did have an expensive unnecessary attorney fee.

Ferguson Law Firm helped me through the most challenging time in my life. They worked incredibly hard. The opposition had made it seem like it was their mission to be as difficult as possible, this seemed to only make Ferguson Law Firm fight even harder. They are amazing and will do everything they can to help you. The ladies in the office are beyond nice and the attorney is amazing. They would contact me with any changes immediately and kept me completely informed throughout the entire process. In the court room the attorney seemed to be flawless. I do not see why anyone would ever choose a different family law firm. They are worth way more than their price. Choosing them will be the best choice you can make.

For the most part Patricia Ferguson was a great attorney, and her support staff was helpful. That is until I got stationed in Korea for a year and she dropped me for not communicating.

Before I left I informed her staff that my wife would be checking in monthly and if they needed to communicate anything, they need to tell her. Patricia and her staff failed to do that, even when my wife asked every month if they needed anything. They always told her no... and didn't even tell her they were trying to contact me.

I am a veteran of the US Army. I was injured when I was shot multiple times and left for dead. My daughter was taken to NC for my mother to watch while I recovered. She attempted to gain custody of her.
When going through a tough time, I needed a lawyer who was aggressive, blunt, upfront, and truthful. I didn't realize that I was getting a warrior. I live in Texas and was confused about everything dealing with NC law. The other party had a lawyer but every time he said something to me, not only did it sound wrong but there was a little smirk on his face. Ms Ferguson is a stellar attorney. I hired her for a child custody case for my children. I had already been divorced and had shared custody with my ex. The one week on, one week off was literally damaging to my children. It was an extremely hard case and took a while due to the circumstances but I m very proud to say that we won. She stood by me the entire time and was a great support. She s an attorney that will fight to the very end because she has a strong belief in what she does. Her professionalism in the courtroom was stellar. I actually had people in court that would ask me for her buisness card just because of how she handled herself. She was honest with me.
