I usually don’t give bad reviews, but I had a terrible experience, the business is fundamentally flawed with poor leadership, and if it saves another person from graying hair and a depleted bank account, then I’ve done my job.
I do NOT recommend James Crawford and Associates.

It seems that their policy is to drag your case out as long as possible until you’re completely broke.

Their attorneys aren’t the usual smart, quick, strategic thinkers, but instead, they’re highly paid notaries that are terrible at simple copy/paste jobs, and they don’t know what to do in court (and that’s if they even show up to court, NOT KIDDING!). So if you see the names of other people’s children in your examination questions, that’s normal at this firm, but last time I checked, I don’t have any kids named Jayden.

After I was passed off from my first attorney Zachery Groves to Lauren Kamenas, she charged me for duplicated work, she would not respond to my calls/emails for weeks and months at a time, and when she did respond, she was quick to make excuses or blame me for something. She often mentioned that she was working at a discounted rate – I guess to justify her poor service. She once told me that another attorney abruptly left the firm, so she had a much higher work load, maybe that's why she usually came unprepared. It's also interesting that I'd often see "case meeting" on my invoices, but I wasn't privy to these meetings, and nothing was getting done, but hey after those meetings Lauren and her paralegals all had enough money to fill up their BMWs and go get drinks.

Zack is the lead Domestic Law attorney there. He was energetic and confident, he knew his stuff. This was the guy I wanted to represent me. Since I was a veteran, a combat-wounded Marine missing both legs after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan, and taking care of three kids BY MYSELF, Zack said he wanted to help me out, so he gave me a discount from the normal rate of $325/hr to $250/hr and asked that I put down only $1500.

After over $20,000 and two years later, I couldn’t even get Lauren to answer a few simple, time sensitive questions that I had during a phone call. Note that they were still charging me but she refused to answer important questions. She was never a good communicator, and that was only one of many red flags that I should have addressed from the beginning, but trying to balance three kids, work, physical therapy, and disabled life isn't easy.

During a phone call with Mr. James Crawford, I wanted to bring these concerns to his attention, however, I was mocked and ridiculed.

If I had continued with Crawford’s firm, I would have spent well over $30K or $40K. They take advantage of disabled veteran single fathers. They will nickle and dime you for every little thing and they don't communicate to you ahead of time what's going on. If you fire them, they will continue making up reasons to bill you until the judge signs off on their withdraw. They'll call the court and wait on hold for 30 - 45 minutes, and there goes a good chunk of the money in the account you just replenished, so now Beth from Billing will be calling you today to get another payment even though you literally just made one. Just stay away, you were warned.

Hire someone else – or, even better – do what I did, figure out a reasonable way to settle your own divorce. You can do it, I believe in you!

PAY ATTENTION TO OTHER BAD REVIEWS!!!!!! I would give this place negative ratings if I could. We went in to meet with one attorney with an appointment, were given another attorney who by the way took no notes, and also had a meeting so our consult lasted about 5 minutes. We filled out a sheet of paper with some details that should have given them the basics to file the domestic case which was urgent at that time. A week later an email was sent by the attorney for the basic information needed to file. They entered their appearance with the court and we thought we were off and running, nope. Our retainer had almost expired (2,000), we never even signed a retainer agreement or knew the rates. They forgot to send it, so they billed the remainder of the money changing a name in their form agreement for both capital (not my case) and domestic cases and sent it to me. They bill weekly@ 300-400 per hour. We were in the second week at this point, how many of you make enough to pay that weekly? They billed for EVERYTHING, emails being sent, reading them, and to some extent I understand the time involved in this, but administrative costs for a huge staff and everything they do should not be entirely charged to the client. It looks like a smaller firm, but its not.
We expected to pay more overall for the case, but not before the case even got filed. They were fired and we were unable to retain an attorney fast enough to stop the other parent from hurting our rights. If you want protection and someone who actually a) cares about the case and then b) can do the job correctly, this is not the office for you. They may do well in some circumstances, but not in a urgent or even timely manner.

I have never been so pleased with a law office in my whole life. I'm 53 years old and sometimes the law doesn't always protect the innocent. But this time it did with your help, very much so. Me and my wife just want to say thank you for helping us out with a very stressful intimidating problem. Without you I would have definitely gone to jail for something that I didn't deserve to go to jail for. Jason fox in your office went above and beyond the Call of Duty and he gave us peace of mind and made the whole process smooth as glass and unintimidating. I retained Zack Groves for an “uncontested” divorce who was very professional and explained the best way to proceed efficiently and in a way to minimize my time and financial exposure. During the process he gave me key information and counsel that saved me the atty’s fees several times over. At one point there was a misunderstanding with the other party over a sizable sum of money and Zack resolved the matter immediately which itself almost paid for my atty’s fees. I picked through the invoices carefully as the legal profession is all about billable hours and did not find anything that caused me concern or seemed unreasonable for the work needed to conclude the case. I saw a few older reviews on a forum for this firm that were less than glowing but if you walk into a law firm with no idea how it works and/or unprepared to do some work yourself to provide the necessary information for the case as well as a clear direction then you need to expect to pay for a lot of hours that were unnecessary. That’s with ANY firm. I thought Zack did a good job of being receptive, offering solutions, communicating with opposing counsel, and fighting for and keeping my concerns in mind throughout. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to someone else or to use him again should the need arise.

Don't waste your time and money!!!!!! $2500 and did absolutely nothing but blow smoke up my ass. Called 5 times with no return calls.Honestly just charged $2500 to talk to me for a total of and hour. He should not be in business. I should of paid attention to the other bad reviews.

Good attorney

The primary lawyer here is great but one associate in particular has no business in a courtroom, especially defending a client. He would be great if he was placed in a law library somewhere doing legal research with other law nerds but I've seen public defenders do a MUCH better and thorough job then this associate had done. He wasn't worth $12.00, let alone $1200.00. It's an insult and sheer robbery for this firm to charge that kind of fee for this associate lawyer. Check with the State of Maryland because formal complaints have and WILL be filed with the State. Live chat isn't always the best resource. At my firm you don't even get to speak with an attorney without getting charged. Seems like your 5 minutes was a free service. I just wouldn't depend on a live chat with any company. I had a terrible experience with Amazon live chat. Speaking with a "live" person is so much more helpful. :) Most attorneys only have a license to practice in the state they live in. I can't speak for this firm from personal experience, but so far my brother has had an amazing experience and with Mr. Groves as well.

My website experience for this firm was excellent. Its live chat was outstanding. I let the person I was chatting with know I was interested in retaining an attorney for a matter which covered both Pennsylvania & Maryland. I was referred to their attorney, Zach Groves, for which an appointment was scheduled. My time with Mr. Grove did not last a full five minutes. He let me know he was unlicensed in the state of Pennsylvania & therefore could be of no help to me. He suggested I find someone in Pennsylvania who could represent my matter. I drove all the way from Frederick just to hear him tell me that. I wondered, what the heck use was the live chat referral for, anyway?
