In the state of Indiana your allowed 2 modification hearing's... This firm reduced my sentence 68months with Mrs. Winkler- York, representing me, then turned around my second Modification, she sent "Brooke", that I didn't know if she was as good as Mrs. Winkler-York. Well let me tell you, I WAS WELL IMPRESSED WITH BROOKE ALSO., she was very assertive with the prosecutor and fought my case as the best in the state of Indiana, and she got the last word in,,,as well ..with a new Judge and Prosecutor making a name for themselves...I was able to get off calling Drug line everyday for the next 3 years and my probation was made informal, I can leave the state by going in and filing out a paper to let Judge know. And I dont have to report no more. For this law firm to get 2 modifications on the same case is unheard of...Thank you so much Melissa Winkler-York and Brooke. I first had a consultation with Melissa because I wanted primary physical custody of my Daughter due to more reasons than I have time to write. I don’t want to get into the specifics but my situation was very difficult for me and at the time I couldn’t be the Father I wanted to be and couldn’t even try to be. Being a Father in the State of Indiana, I felt like I didn’t have a chance. That was before I met Melissa Winkler-York. Not only did she take my case that really wasnt in her geographical area, she kicked major behind and I now have primary physical custody of my Daughter! She got me everything I wanted and more! She knew exactly what to do at our court date and I have to say that I was very impressed! I wish I could give some examples of how she dominated but I will keep them between us. As normal court cases go, things were kind of slow in the beginning due to the courts losing my original filing, a few continuations and things like that but it’s just how it goes. If everything goes right for you at the beginning and during the process, then nothing will go right in the end so I consider the few bumps along the way a blessing. People need to understand that you have to communicate with your attorney. You have to work together. You have to tell them the problems you’re having or the things you need or they’ll never know. You have to keep in constant contact. If you really want the results you seek, you have to stay at it. You need to do some work as well. Some reviews on here are obviously from people who think that their attorney is supposed to do absolutely everything for them. Yea, you pay them but it’s not going to work that way. You have to work with your attorney as a team. Going months without contacting them, not doing some work of your own, not getting the results you want due to your lack of motivation, then giving a bad review isn’t very smart.

With Melissa we have settled out of court, and within 6 months the entire case has been wrapped up, for a fraction of what we had already spent. THis law firm is turning out to be the worst decision we have made. We hired them for a simple visitation and support case a year ago and we still have yet to see a judge or be granted basic state mandated visitation. I am not sure if this is due to the father taking the mother to court to enforce his rights and the law firm has an issue representing him but literally it has been a year. The law office also never responds to emails or calls regarding to this case. At this time we will be lodging a complaint as i am sure if someone pays an attorney i am going to go out on a limb and say they are required to return your calls and respond to your emails.

Edit since I cannot reply: if my final documents were sent “months ago” then why did I receive the final documents until November 18th when this started back in June? I asked for a simple change on the custody days from mon/Tuesday and Wednesday/thur since August and a change in child support agreement it was finalized until these final papers in November. They weren’t even working on this until I called to follow up due to the paralegal change. Not to mention multiple typos in the agreement calling my ex partner a “he”. Terrible job and to lie on top of that, what a poor choice of picking you guys and waste of money.

Pretty unsatisfied with their services. It took them 6 months to draft an extremely bare-bones divorce settlement agreement after having to be doing daily calls for the last few weeks trying to follow up. It was long enough for the situation to change and the very lacking divorce settlement agreement to not be applicable anymore. Now they want to charge me as contested divorce to move forward because of their incompetency to act quickly. Had to deal with 3 different paralegals working on my agreement. Every time they changed paralegals my paperwork seemed to get lost and they’d stop working on it unless I called to follow up and I’d have to get the process started all over again. They were also grossly terrible at returning calls if the paralegal or attorney were unavailable.

Melissa and her staff were very efficient and professional. Upon contacting her office, we were scheduled for an initial consultation within a 24 hour period. She walked us through the process and answered our questions along the way. We felt confident we could rely on her experience and we did. I would highly recommend her services.

Melissa represented me in a quite nasty divorce. And though I worried from time to time that my case wasn't getting enough attention or my emails were addressed a day later, I fretted unnecessarily because Melissa had my back the entire time. She was calm, cool and collected in the court room, but commanded that space and OWNED it. If you are looking for someone to represent you in a divorce, this is the lady to do to, hands down! I couldn't recommend her more! Editing to add: My ex started playing games the second he learned the outcome for the divorce and tried evicting myself and the kids. I spoke to Zach who not only spoke with me but coached me through representing myself and the kids. I won but that didn't stop my ex from trying again in Superior Court. Zach stepped in and represented me. He was professional but extremely confident inside and outside the court room and had my ex tongue tied and stammering. Zach had a way of keeping me calm as well and he won the case in the blink of an eye. Again, I cannot recommend the people at this law firm enough!

Melissa helped me with my custody case. I talked to other attorneys who said I didn't have a chance to get my kids back. Although Melissa told me it would not be easy, she said that I at least had a chance so I decided to hire her to try. We had a hearing that lasted 2 full days and Melissa was awesome. At the end, I won and got my kids back. Had I listened to the other attorneys I never would have even tried.

Putting my reply above the original post because we are unable to go back and forth here. I said up front that my ex was very difficult and mischievous. Melissa told me that with my income being so low she would keep my charges as low as possible and would not push forward if not financially in my favor to do so. Telling me to take a 20$ deal was definitely not in my best interest after forking out 1600$. Also I was told in Melissa's office that my ex's income was way above her actual income and wasn't told any different until court. That was very misleading. Communication and caring for the client did not meet expectations in this case. I have a compliance hearing this month. Will I have a new order before then? Is the case over before the judge makes a ruling? How much is an answer going to cost? Over half my bill seems to be communication charges like 30$ for a phone call. I have never had an attorney demand a second retainer the week before court. Every attorney I've ever hired has accepted payments . I am in worse debt now than before hiring Melissa.

I give 3 stars for now and will update post accordingly as my case isn't over yet.Went to Melissa for help getting my child support reduced. She told me on the first day she could probably get my case done for under the 500$ retainer fee and if not it wouldn't be much more. Less than a week before court she needed 100$ to serve my ex. Had to reschedule twice because their person couldn't get my ex served. One week before our 3rd hearing they needed another 1000$ or they were dropping me as a client. Begged and borrowed the money so I wouldn't have to go to court without an attorney. We get there, she talks to my ex and tells me my ex agrees to 20$ less a week and I should agree and take the deal. It would take a year and a half to recoup the 1600$ paid to Melissa. My son will be 19 in a yr and a half and that is the legal age of emancipation in Indiana. So we went before the judge and all seemed good yet the judge said she needed to think the case over and would send out the new child support order. Melissa told me it would be up to 10 days to get the new order. It's been over two weeks since court and I still don't have a new order yet I did just got another bill from Melissa's office saying I owe another 120$ and she's filing to withdraw from the case that's still not settled.

I was fighting for custody of my son. Its a pretty deep case. When I got the deposition packet from his (my kids father) I felt like i was fighting for my LIFE! Pretty shook, i refused to fill it out i started looking for a GOOD lawyer. I started with some guy that i wasnt confident with... he sounded good but after letting started
and knowing he has enough money to hire the BEST to fight for custody, i started searching again. I came across Melissa and her great reviews. I scheduled and met with her. She came in dressed in a printed design tee and jeans. I was taken back but we got to business. It started with communication and updates and further down, turned into long hold times, unreturned phone calls, and uneasiness from lack of communication while im fighting for MY LIFE AND SON. I did mk sure to provide great material to fight with. All this was reaching on a year time past since i hired her... Not 1X did i step foot in a court room or had to appear. Out of the blue I recieved the call that WE WON!! IT WAS OVER!! Im thankful for her services. I wished it was better communication. But regardless she was REASONABLY PRICED... and she got the job done!

I was going through the most emotional and difficult time in my life and I am thankful to have found The Law Office of Melissa Winkler-York. I hired this firm to get my record expunged. I was very pleased to find out they would take on my case and focus on one county before we decided to proceed with the rest. My concern is that I made a down payment late last summer and agreed I would pay the second part once they filed the petition and we got a court date. The whole thing sounded like it would be wrapped up before the end of the year (2018) and we would go from there. I think I made half of the second payment in October despite having no court date. To the best of my understanding they filed the petition January (2019) and still no court date as we are quickly approaching mid July. I have been told they are not sure what is taking so long for us to get a response on the order. Anyway, today I have received an invoice for the balance for the second month in a row and there has been no updates from the court or a court date scheduled. I'd be excited to pay if things started progressing. Thankfully, the majority of my emails are responded to when I send them but not always and honestly I'm starting to feel very concerned with this process. I only have a year to complete this request and I only have the one opportunity to get it accomplished. I'm not sure if I should start looking to hire another firm/attorney or what, honestly I just feel hopeless. During my consultation this process sounded so simple, now I feel like a bother and an inconvenience. Ultimately I would be very satisfied if things would have gone as discussed and hopefully I am just worrying to much, I just don't want to wait to long to start considering other options. I will update this review as this case progresses.

UPDATE: After leaving this review last night I received an email this morning that really put me at ease! Again, I've been impressed with everything this firm has done with me personally and honestly it looks like the responsibility of the delay is simply waiting on the prosecutor to sign my documents. I will continue to update my review until my case comes to a close.

They don’t like to call back what so ever. I’ve called once a week to get some info, over a 3 month period so I had to gave up. I tried work with them understand might be busy but had to get a different attorney.

My experience with Melissa was great! My case wasn't too complicated but anything I needed or any questions I had she was on it.

Melissa was a pleasure to work with. She is very knowledgeable and knows her stuff. I was trying to obtain 50/50 custody and she was able to get me “full” physical custody of my kids. I had called and met with a few other attorneys before hiring Melissa. When I met with her she was very professional but still compassionate. She explained what steps we would take and was very confident in what our outcome would be.
